HMMV Poster

The document summarizes the design of a high mobility multi-purpose vehicle (HMMWV). It was designed with 6 wheels to perform better than a 4-wheeled vehicle in obstacles crossing, off-road maneuvering, and handling with punctured tires. The 6-wheeled prototype was modeled digitally and evaluated using various engineering software to study vehicle dynamics, power transmission, steering configurations, and suspension systems. The resulting vehicle has 25cc engine, all-wheel drive, independent suspension, four-wheel steering, and can carry a payload of up to 30 kg.

HIGH MOBILITY MULTI-PURPOSE VEHICLE

Automotive research Group, Department of Mechanical Engineering NUST COLLEGE OF ELECTRICAL & MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
BACKGROUND

LOGO

The New Doctrine The new doctrine is to rely less on the logistics nightmare of tracked vehicles and towed howitzers, and more on lighter faster wheeled vehicles. Wheeled vehicles when compared to tracked vehicles are more readily transferred to forward areas; whereas wheeled vehicles can be airlifted, track vehicles must be railed and then shipped to their destination. The difference can be measured in weeks.

PURPOSE
To have a prototype platform to study and validate vehicle dynamics principles related to multi wheeled vehicles Study and evaluate power transmission for AWD and selected axle drive systems Study of Steering configurations for multi-axle steering. Study of suspension systems

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The six-wheeled vehicle is believed to have better performance than a four-wheeled vehicle in terms of its capability for crossing obstacles, off-road maneuvering and fail-safe handling when one or two of the tires are punctured. A six wheeled vehicle was designed in Digital environment using; Pro ENGINEER for component layout and packaging LOTUS SHARK for suspension and steering design MAPLE for system level Analytical studies MSC ADAMS for full Vehicle Dynamics evaluation

THE RESULT
A six-wheeled vehicle with 25 cc Engine All wheel drive Independent suspension Four Wheel (-ve) steering System All mechanically implemented for more reliability and robustness Payload: multiple (up to 30 kg)
