Beeping Alarm System (Analog Project)

(1) The students built a beeping alarm system circuit to detect intruders and alert security. (2) The circuit uses transistors, LEDs, resistors, capacitors, a buzzer, push buttons, and an LDR light sensor to produce a beeping sound when the LDR detects darkness. (3) Experimental results showed that the buzzer would beep continuously until the push off switch was pressed, thus alerting to intrusions, though the LDR light sensor did not function as intended.

Result and Discussion

Experimental results:

From the experiment conducted, we found that when the triggering swith is triggered, a beeping sound is
produce by the buzzer. This beeping sound only stops when the push off swith is pushed.

Disscusion and explanaition of the result:

This circuit detects darkness and produces a beep-beep-beep alarm. The first two transistors form a high-
gain amplifier with feedback via the 4u7 capacitor to produce a low-frequency oscillator. This provides
voltage for the second oscillator (across the 1k resistor) to drive a buzzer. The LED will turn on when the
LDR detect the absent of light where its resistance decrease allowing current to flow through avoiding the
100k resister. In the experiment, we had to replace the LDR with just 2 wires disconnecting from each other
simulating the triggering alarm because the LDR did not function as we expected. It did not produce voltage
difference across it lower than that from the voltage across the 100KΩ resister.

Conclusion:

From the project, we found out that this circuit is practical enough for home alarm system.
