How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and

evaluation stages?

 Blogspot
 Social Networks
 Photo-editing software
 SLR camera
 Microsoft Office
 Scribd
 Slideshare
 Serif PagePlus, PhotoPlus & WebPlus.

Listed above are some of the new media technologies I have used throughout my
construction, research/planning and evaluation stages. Media technologies and production
are constantly changing as the boundaries of technology develop and become a standard
process in creating what the world sees, hears, and grasps each day.

The blog was where I assembled all my work together. I uploaded my

constructions in stages to show exactly how I developed or challenged forms of
real media and also if I added any of my own adaptations to it. The blogger
allowed me to regularly post about my research and planning process and
display my final productions. It also enabled me to leave comments on each
other’s blogs which is also part of our development- audience feedback.

Digital technology allowed me to use different editing tools and cameras to get different
qualities in shots, it enabled me to empower with the tools and gave me the skills and
confidence to take creative control of my research and presentation projects. The software
that I used was Serif PagePlus and WebPlus for my construction, I already was familiar with
this software as I used it last year for my final production pieces so this was to my
advantage- less time consuming and efficient. It has various tools like ‘text frame layout,
crop tools, colour converters, picture boxes, shape tools etc.’ According to what type of
production you are constructing, Serif had the design software for all my productions.
WebPlus enabled me to add on ‘navigations, hyperlinks and other website conventions
necessary, it allowed me to design, create and upload my website onto the internet without
any knowledge of HTML or other web technologies. Once I finished my website it also
allowed me to preview the site in a web browser before uploading the site using the in-built
FTP.

During the construction stages of my work I had to closely look at other real life
conventional products, which in my case were newspaper articles, websites and adverts. We
had to analyse and annotate examples using Microsoft Power Point presentations. This was
very helpful because of the easy insertion of images, basic and most staple
tools to effective presentations. Power Point presentation combines
audio and visual both aspects, making it easier for the reader to understand. I also used
Microsoft Word to document my questionnaires as part of my research and planning stages,
this was beneficial as it could be easily printed, uploaded or downloaded on the World Wide
Web.

Scribd and Slideshare are aprogrammes that were very supportive allowing me to upload
my presentations in different design templates. Using various presentational programmes
broadened my knowledge and skill on the diverse ways in which we can depict our work.

In addition to technical skills and access to technologies that cater information to you, it has
become increasingly important for people to have a diversified and supportive social
connections. Once I got to my evaluation stage considering my target audience, local
residents of all ages, I had to get audience feedback and evaluate my work and to me, the
most effective way was through social networks like
‘Facebook & Twitter’. This helped me cover a wider audience
and the feedback I received was very beneficial, I also used
members of class to evaluate my work to help me achieve the
codes and conventionsof a newspaper genre.
