Proposal

The document proposes a team project to create an online multiplayer "Battleships" game. It will use object-oriented modeling and be accessible via the internet. The project aims to develop skills in areas like databases, AI, web programming, and Flash while producing a fully functional game. It could later be modified for educational use by preschoolers. The deliverables would include a Windows application, user authentication system, two-player and single-player modes. Limitations include needing to port it to Java for other platforms and limited skills restricting complexity.

Proposal for team project

Introduction

For the completion of team project for BSc computing we intend to carry out a
software development project. We propose to create a “Battleships” type game
using Object Modelling Technique’s, which will be accessible over the Internet.

The project will consolidate our accumulated skills and prompt investigation into
new skills; multi-user database, Artificial Intelligence, Active Server Pages, Hyper
Text Mark-up Language and Macromedia Flash.

The end product could be modified and used as a stepping-stone for further
educational developments. This would be targeted at pre-school children for use
in nurseries.

Aims
 To learn to run and manage a project as a cooperative team, working to a
time schedule.
 To produce a fully working application using object-orientated modelling
concepts.
 To produce a fully working Internet based application.

Deliverables
 An Application, which will initially run on Windows Operating System.
 Database logon system, where only authorised users may access the
application.
 Two-player operation.
 Single player mode using Artificial Intelligence.

Limitations
 The application will require translation into Java/Apache for portability
across platforms.
 Our knowledge of Object Programming will limit the development and
complexity of the application.
