Information About Hymos

Description of Hymos Hymos Data Structure

Hymos Applications Data Types

HYMOS Environment Main components of Hymos

Connecting Hymos to GIS To Main Menu

Description of Hymos (1/2)

Hymos is a powerful information system for storage, processing and

presentation of (geo)hydrological, meteorological, water quality and
morphological data.

Hymos combines an efficient database structure with an extensive set of tools

for data entry, validation, completion, analysis, retrieval and reporting.
Description of Hymos (2/2)

Hymos is comprehensive, well tuned and easy to use. A full graphical and
map-based user interface creates a pleasant and efficient working
environment. Hymos has powerful and flexible modules for production of
graphics, maps and tables. The Open Data Structure ensures convenient
interaction and data transfer with most other databases and modelling
systems operated world-wide. Being part of Delft Tools, Hymos is fully
integrated with other software packages of Delft Hydraulics like Sobek,
Delwaq and Ribasim.

Hymos runs on stand-alone computers as well as in a network system.

Securities have been built in to restrict access to certain activities to qualified
staff only.
Hymos Applications

Hymos is developed for efficient storage, processing and presentation of

(geo)hydrological, meteorological, water quality and morphological data.
It’s features cover the needs of organisations responsible for monitoring
network operation and database management like hydro-meteorological
services, water resources authorities and water boards. The powerful data
processing and analysis features, on the other hand, make Hymos very
suitable for application in studies, research and consultancy which often
require processing of large amounts of data in a limited time frame.

Hymos data are to a large extent time-oriented. Together with a space

oriented GIS, it covers the data storage and processing requirements for
planning, design and operation of water management systems.
Hymos Environment

Hymos uses the win32 API used in Windows 95 en Windows NT for

optimal communication with the 32 bits operating system. Through the
Microsoft Jet database engine Hymos has direct access to many different
relational databases like Microsoft Access and ODBC databases.
Hymos is built on the modular structure of Delft Tools (Decision Support
System Tools). This allows easy integration of existing applications into
Hymos by means of OLE (object linking and embedding) or DDE
(dynamic data exchange).
Connecting Hymos to GIS

Because Hymos is map oriented it can be easily linked to

GIS sytems. At present, the geographical interface for
Hymos is Netter, a Delft Tools component. Between Hymos
and Netter an OLE connection is established to exchange
information.
Instead of using Netter you can use your own GIS as an
interface to Hymos, like ArcView or MapInfo.
Hymos Data Structure
Hymos uses two data types:
 Matrix data: this is time oriented data in equidistant and
non-equidistant series. The data is organised as a three
dimensional matrix with location, parameter and time axis.
This Data structure is file-independent through Open Data
Structure library of supported file types. Adding of new file
types to the library is very easy.
 Meta data to give details concerning locations, parameters,
time and relations. This meta data uses standard database
file formats accessed with the Database engine. Hymos uses
the Microsoft Jet database engine to access relational data
bases. This enables Hymos to connect to a wide range of
data base systems like:
• Microsoft Jet database file, Access database (.mdb)
• an ODBC database, such as a Paradox, or ISAM.
Data Types

 Geographical data from GIS

 Location-oriented data; observation stations, hydraulic
structures
 Equidistant and non-equidistant time series
 Relation oriented data; profile measurement data, relationship
