You may assess the validity of a digital signature, as follows:

1. Set your digital signature verification preferences. For more information, please see
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/standard/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7d34.w.html

2. The Income Tax Department - Centralized Processing Center’s intimation PDF is signed using the
digital signature certificate issued by e-Mudhra (www.e-Mudhra.com) who is the certifying authority
licensed by The Office of Controller of Certifying Authorities (www.cca.gov.in), Govt. of India.

3. As a one-time setup, the relevant digital certificates need to be downloaded from e-Mudhra and
imported into your machine’s certification store. To do this
a. Download the following certificates from http://www.e-mudhra.com/downloads.htm
o CCA 2007
o e-Mudhra CA
o e-Mudhra class 3 platinum Organization CA
o e-Mudhra class 3 platinum Organization SubCA
b. Install all the above certificates by double-clicking and following the dialog

4. Open the PDF containing the digital signature, right-click the signature and choose Validate
Signature. The Signature Validation Status describes the validity of the signature.

5. Click Signature Properties, and do the following:

c. If the status is validity unknown, click the Signer tab, and click Show Certificate to view the details
of the certificate. In the Certificate Viewer select the root certificate (CCA 2007) and click ‘Add to
Trusted Identities’ on Trust tab. Click OK.
d. Click the Date/Time tab to verify the timestamp, if added.
e. Click the Legal tab to learn more about the legal restrictions of the signature. In the Legal tab,
click View Document Integrity Properties to check if it contains items that could alter its
appearance.
If the document was modified after it was signed, check the signed version of the document and
compare it to the current version.

Please note the above validation procedure works best on Adobe Reader X version. If you need further
