Under 7 years of Bush economics, unemployment rates increased significantly across multiple groups. The total unemployment rate rose from 4.2% to 5%, and long-term unemployment doubling. Manufacturing jobs declined sharply by over 3 million. The number of Americans without health insurance or in poverty also increased substantially. Mortgage debt and consumer debt both increased sharply while median incomes rose modestly and union membership declined.
