WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT

ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES
FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT
During the process of making this media product, different programmes and
technology were used to make it easier, allowing one person to do many jobs at
once from one computer. This is called Desk Top Publishing. I used the
following technology:

 Photoshop CS3
 QuarkXpress 7
 Nikon D3000 Camera
 Sony Cybershot Camera
 Blogspot.com
 Prezi.com, slideshare.net, picasion.com,
replay video capture used in presenting
onto the blog
Desk Top Publishing
DTP is the means of creating a magazine entirely by yourself at one
computer, along with a printer and camera. You do all the jobs by
yourself, and does not require a big team. This can be cost efficient and
quicker. It has been made possible by the advancements in technology.

 Journalist
 Photographer
 Sub-Editor
 Layout Sub-Editor
 Graphic Designer
 Proof Reader
Photoshop CS3
I used Photoshop to mainly construct the front
cover. It is the main programme that is used by
the Graphic Designers, who on a team working
on a magazine will edit the images and create
the final front cover. Graphic Designers create
the font, and the layout, and use typography as
a basis of their work. Photoshop made making
the creative process a lot easier, and having
digital copies of the front cover made editing
much easier.
I have used Photoshop before, so when I started this media product I was already
familiar with the software, however I was able to use this past knowledge and
apply it to make the front cover. I enjoyed using Photoshop, and feel my familiarity
with the software increase.

QuarkXpress 7 This is a professional programme that is used

by the professional magazine industry. It is
used by the layout sub editor to create the
layout for the rest of the article. It is a more
functional programme and is basic to use.
Unlike Photoshop there is no ‘fancy extras’
and there is a maximum of around 4 tools
you need to use. It made creating the
contents page and double page spread a lot
easier, i.e. Everything was now a lot neater
and laid out in columns.
This was the first time that I had used QuarkXpress and had not even heard of it
before the start of the coursework. It was easy to pick up, remaining functional, and
it could be used to its full potential in a matter of days. It is a very user friendly
programme, providing the user with simple straight to the point tools, without any
revision needed to figure out how to use it.

Nikon D3000 + Sony Cybershot
I used the DSLR camera to take the series of
front cover images. It is a professional camera,
and can be quite complicated to use. However
as I have my own, I was already familiar with
the camera and how it works.

This is my camera that I used to take

the photos at the concerts. It worked
well in the low light, and was much
more functional at a concert.
Blogspot.com
This was the method were I have recorded
all of the planning and was presented
clearly in a blog format. It was easy to use
and I had never used it before. It has given
me the ability to use various technology
within the blog, embedding it into the posts
and so on.
