This document provides instructions for 5 statics homework problems, asking students to draw free body diagrams for various objects. Problem 1 involves drawing the FBD of a shaft assembly supported by 2 bearings and a link. Problem 2 involves drawing the FBD of a 10 kg rod supported by a ball-and-socket joint and cord. Problem 3 asks for the FBD of an L-shaped member supported by a ball-and-socket joint and 3 cables. Problem 4 involves drawing the FBD of 2 welded plates supported by ball-and-socket joints and a ball. Problem 5 asks for the FBD of a 15 kg rectangular plate held by hinges and a cable, with no axial thrust at one hinge.

DCGN241 STATICS Homework 17
Spring 2011 Note: Neglect the weight of the members
1) Draw the free body diagram of the shaft assembly which is
Supported by two smooth journal bearings A and B and a short Link DC.
2) Draw the free body diagram of the uniform
10-Kg rod AB which is supported by a ball- and-socket joint at A and by cord CG that is attached to the midpoint G of the rod. The rod leans against a frictionless vertical wall at B.
3) Draw the free body diagram of the
rigid L-shaped member ABC that is supported by a ball-and-socket joint at A and by three cables. 4) Draw the free body diagram of the two rectangular plates which are welded together to form the assembly shown. The assembly is supported by ball-and-socket joints at B and D and by a ball on a horizontal surface at C.
5) Draw the free body diagram of the rectangular plate
which has a mass of 15 kg and is held in the position shown by hinges A and B and cable EF. Assuming that the hinge at B does not exert any axial thrust.
