COOLING SYSTEM INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS

Upon completion of this job sheet, you should be able to inspect the entire cooling system and determine the
cause of abnormal conditions

1. Inspect the following components and describe their condition

Any obvious defects should be corrected
2. Remove the radiator cap. Make sure the engine is cooled down. ( do not do this if the engine is warm)
3. With a clean rag, wipe off the radiator filler neck, then inspect it. Is the sealing area free of accumulated dirt,
nicks or anything that would prevent the radiator cap from sealing good? Yes__ No___
If yes describe the condition_________________________________________
4. Check the locking tabs and or cams on the filler neck for damage. Describe their condition
5. Inspect the overflow tank, hose and connections. Look for cracks or other problems that may not allow the
system to seal.
6. Run a wire through the overflow tube or hose to clear any obstructions
7. What is the pressure rating of the radiator cap? _________psi
8. Top off the coolant to bring it to the proper level
9. Install the radiator cap
