what's inside the magazine.
This is the contents logo which has to stand out to guide the
audience as to what this page is. To achieve this eye catching
logo I have used an outer glow and drop shadow to add
depth to the logo.
This is anchorage text in a banner at the bottom of the page used to draw
in the audience as it reveals info about inside the magazine, it also stands
out and draws attention to itself as it uses bright primary colours.
My title uses a large text in order to stand out,
also to help it stand out I used the effects bevel I used these speech bubbles to show quotes from
and emboss to create depth to the text. Also the interview, it allows these quotes to stand out
using a buzz word like ‘Exclusive’ also draws the more, and leaves people wanting to read the
audiences attention to the text. whole interview so the quotes are in context.
My magazine uses and conforms to the codes and conventions of modern day magazines to create a
professional image and style to the magazine, but it also challenges some to help it stand out and grab
people’s attention. This is necessary as copying other magazines will only get you so far to be successful you
need to create a new craze and buzz that will strike out at a particular audience.
How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
The colour scheme used within my magazine helps the audience connect with the magazine and its contents
as it suggests a certain style. The images within the magazine target a particular audience as the images
consist of instruments and distinctive clothing that would help an audience relate to it. This is important as
without addressing your target audience you run the risk of no one looking to buy your magazine, so I have
tried to find the right balance when creating my magazine of targeting a particular audience enough to draw
them to the magazine, whilst leaving it various as possible so that it appeals to secondary wider audience.
What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
I have chosen to go with IPC who own NME, and are the UK’s leading magazine publisher which is
a major advantage already, and would be the perfect stepping stone for the magazines success.
Although the company already owns NME a massive magazine similar to mine, I feel my magazine
has enough originality and new style that they would not clash or compete for audiences.
Who would be the audience for your
media product?
The audience for my music magazine is young teenagers to adults as my magazine contains a wide variety of
pop music targeting more than one particular age group. This is good technique to achieve success as
targeting just one particular audience can only gain you so much, but also adding more variety targets lots
more audiences, and as I learnt in my questionnaire results shown that my target audience preferred a music
magazine that covered a variety of music rather than a genre or artist in particular.
How did you attract/address your
audience?
My magazine targets my audience as its content and image appeals to them directly, it also helps them relate
to it as it uses a language and style they will understand. This is achieved through the layout, and colour
scheme, the style and colours used within my magazine can be related to the modern contemporary image of
the magazine which is its appeal to the target audience. The way in which appeals to the target audience
directly is by the images and content they can see in front of them, as it covers and shows them recognisable
and familiar artists, clothing ect.
What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
During this project I used Photoshop software to create my magazine, using this I have gained essential
Photoshop skills and developed my previous skills. I have also used online facilities such as a blog which I
have learnt to use effectively to share my work. Also during the project I learnt about other mobile technology
such as YouTube, and social networking sites and their involvement and impact on the media and in particular
this subject of a music magazine. During this project I also learnt more about digital photography, and as I
used my own images for the magazine learnt some of the key information to do with it such as the rule of
thirds which I took in to consideration in my own images.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to
full product
Since the original college magazine to the latest music magazine I think I have gathered the skills to create a
much more professional image and style to my magazines. I have done this my gaining skills in all the
technologies I have used during this project such as Photoshop, blogs, and digital photography, this
collectively has give me the ability to create a far superior magazine idea in the music magazine rather than
the college magazine.
