The writing process reflects the concerns and choices that writers have for the composition. Purpose of the assignment. Traditionally, essay writing has been divided into the following pattern of development:Narration Exposition Cause and effect Description Comparison and contrast Argumentative

1. Narration

A narration tells a story by presenting events in an orderly, logical sequence. Narration presents a sequence of events in order to prove a point. Narrative writing may be the part of an essay that is not primarily a narrative. Point of view in narration. First person narration.

Third person narration. Narrative details. Narrative variety. Narrative order. Structure of narrative essay. Prewriting. Drafting and introduction.

Organizing a narrative paper. Writing a conclusion. 2. Description Description can be defined as a mode of perception. Description is to introduce your view of the world to your readers. Observe, describe, interpret and write concrete details.

Description can also go beyond personal sense impressions. Purpose of description is to reinforce the thesis, to help readers understand the structure of physical object organism or phenomenon. Subjective and Objective Description Subjective Description It refers to personal view, how writer feels and thinks about the subject.

Subjective Description A subjective description should convey not just a factual record of sights and sounds but also their meaning or significance. Subjective description rely on richer language with connotations of words and emotional association.

Objective Description The focus is on the object rather than on personal reaction to it. The tone is literal, factual and fair. The language should be precise, factual and unambiguous.

Argumentation Evidence consist of fact or opinion . Examples and statistical evidence are factual. Factual evidence can be drawn from observation and reading. Opinions are interpretation of facts. Opinions of experts are more convincing. Evidence should be relevant.

Argumentation Evidence should be sufficient. Deal with opposite argument. Deductive argument or deductive reasoning proceeds from general assumptions to specific conclusion. Inductive argument moves from specific example or fact to a general conclusion.
