Sub: Conversion of 2Mbps Internet To 4Mbps Internet Connection - Reg

This document is a letter from an IT programmer requesting to upgrade the college's internet connection from 2Mbps to 4Mbps. It notes that increased internet usage requires more bandwidth. Upgrading to 4Mbps would allow file sharing between buildings and remove the need for separate lines. The cheapest quote was from their current provider, Netcom, who offered 4Mbps for less annually than their current 2Mbps plan. The programmer requests approval to upgrade the connection and for Netcom to provide a free wireless link between buildings.

Respected Sir,
Sub: Conversion of 2Mbps Internet to 4Mbps Internet Connection – reg.

At present Our College is equipped with 2Mbps internet connection. Now it

becomes essential to convert our 2Mbps to 4Mbps Internet line. The following
advantages can be reaped out of it.
1. Due to increased use of internet by all staffs and students heavy traffic is there
which slows down the system. This can be avoided.
2. Both internet lab in computer building and main building can be linked and inter-
departmental file sharing becomes possible.
3. Present broadband internet lines can be removed.;
For this purpose, we contacted a few parties and Quotations were received. The
comparative statement is attached, Netcom is the cheapest. Already we have 2Mbps
internet installed by Netcom Online Solutions, Coimbatore at a rate of Rs.30,000 per
month(Rs.3,60,000 per annum). Now for 4Mbps the price per annum is Rs.3,38,000
which is lesser than the current price and also the bandwidth is double.
It is required to establish the connection between the Computer Centre building
and the Main building. For this purpose, we need to lay Optical Fiber Cable or we have
to establish Wireless link. Netcom Online Solutions has agreed to provide free wireless
link between these two buildings which costs above Rs 50,000/-.
Sanction may please be accorded.
Thanking You,
Yours Faithfully,

(M. Sivaprakasam.)
