Cell Analogy Assignment

The cell analogy assignment asks students to create a model of a plant cell using an analogy of their choice. Students must complete checkpoints where they write their cell analogy, complete a table matching organelles to structures in their analogy and explaining the functions, and create a labeled model. They will have their work checked by a teacher at each checkpoint and be assessed on a rubric evaluating how well their model represents the organelle functions.

Cell Analogy Assignment

Purpose: To create a model of a cell based on an analogy of your choice and explain how each organelle
in the plant cell compares to your chosen structure.

After each checkpoint you will see a stop sign please have your work checked by Ms. Martinez or Mrs.
Richter and make sure they initial the stop sign.

Checkpoint 1: Write your analogy here:

A plant cell is like _________________________________________ STOP!!

Checkpoint 2: Complete the following table. List the organelles of a plant cell using your notes in the
first column. In the second column, list the structure in your cell model that represents that organelle. In
the third column, explain how each model structure relates to the function of the organelle.

STOP!!!
Checkpoint 3: Create a model to represent your analogy. Make sure you have different colors and
label each structure in your model the organelle it represents.

STOP!!!
