CONNECTORS

1. Logical Connectors are used to link ideas from one sentence to the next
and to give paragraphs coherence.
2. Read the following sentences.
Your house is small.
My house is very big.
It can be:
Your house is small. However, my house is very big.
Your house is small; however, my house is very big.
However shows contrast between the two houses.
Below is a list of logical connectors.
a) To show addition ideas:
In addition
Moreover
Furthermore
Besides/besides that
Likewise
Additionally
Similarly
Example:
She is clever. Moreover, she is hardworking.
I work hard. Similarly, I play hard.
You are glad to see me. Likewise, I am glad too.
b) To compare persons, places, animals and objects:
For example
For instance
Similarly
Likewise
Example:
I have been to many places. For example, I have been to London,
France and Uganda.
Orange tastes very sweet. Similarly, mango tastes as sweet.
c) To show contrast/ a problem that conflicts with the situation or
viewpoint:

Nevertheless

Sam is lazy. However, his sister is hardworking.
d) To show result:

My brother eats too much. Therefore, he is overweight.


TIPS: When using logical connectors, you have to place a comma(,) after
using them.
Sequence Connectors
1. We use sequence connectors to show the sequence when we describe a
process or procedure.
Example:
Firstly/ first
Secondly / second
Next
Later
After that

In conclusion
Finally
