One learning experience related to CLPNA happened when I was


studying the community health-nursing textbook. I learned that one of
the limitations of population health promotion model in Canada is that

we give equal focus on the behavioral and socio-environment


determinants when in fact there has been evidence showing that social
and economic determinants are the most influential determinants of
health in Canada. An example is with individual/ family social support
networks, a CHN assists a group of seniors in a senior housing
complex to plan and advertise a social event in their building. This
helps in developing healthy personal skills.

What I learned was is that the Toronto came out with ten key social
determinates for healthy Canada. The ten determinants include early
child development, education, employment and working conditions,
food security, health care services, housing shortages, income and
equitable distribution, social exclusion, social safety nets, and
unemployment. This relates to the competency because peoples health

is highly influenced by their economic and social circumstances. This


learning experience is meaningful because it proves that the higher
income and social status are linked to better health. The greater the gap
between the richest and poorest people, the greater the differences in
health.

To achieve this competency I read my textbook and compared different
scenarios, and theories to improve my understanding of how social
determinants of health influence individual, groups, and communities,
however could not put into practice yet until I attend my clinical
practice.

In my current clinical and future practice I will apply this learning into
my nursing practice being able to assess which social determinants are
