InordertoupgradetheECMsoftware,theECMmustbeflashed.FlashprogrammingoftheECM
mustalsobedoneiftheECMhasbeenreplaced.TheCatElectronicTechnician(CatET)Service
ToolcontainstheprogramWinFlash.WinFlashisusedtoloadsoftwareintotheECM.Toavoid
communicationissues,performthefollowingproceduretoFLASHsoftwareintotheECM.
Note:ThisarticlecanbeusedasageneralguideforECMflashing,onallCaterpillarProducts.If
issuesarestillpresentafterconductingthefollowingprocedure,referencetheproductspecific
publicationsforfurtherinstructions.

ProceduretoFlashProgramtheECM
Note:BeforeflashinganyECM,ensurethatthetransmissiondirectionswitchisintheneutral
position.Ensureboththeimplementlockoutandparkingbrakeswitchesareinthelockedposition.
TurnkeystartswitchtotheONposition.Waitafull2minutestoallowallECMstoinitialize
communications.
1.ConnecttheDataLinkcablebetweenCommAdapterIIIandmachineserviceport.
2.ConnecttheUSBPCconnectorcablebetweenCommAdapterIIIandlaptop.

Adapter3(RP1210)"fromthedropdownbox.Ensurethe"EnableDualDataLinkService"
boxisselected.
5.ConnecttoCatET.
6.RunProductStatusReport(PSR).
7.CopytheECMReplacementFilesforallECMs.
8.Takenoteofanyactivediagnosticcodes,andclearloggeddiagnosticcodes.
9.ConnecttoWinFlash.
10.DeterminewhichECMistobeflashed,andthenloadflashfile.
Note:IfflashingmultipleECMs,takenoteifaspecificorderistobefollowed.
11.VerifythatflashfileiscorrectforthespecificECM,andthenbeginflash.
12.Oncecomplete,returntoCatET.
13.RunthepostflashProductStatusReport.
14.Beforepoweringdown,performallcalibrations,clocksyncetc.Allowmachinetooperatefor
atleast10minutestoallownewparameterstobeaccepted.
15.Afterpoweringdownthemachine,wait3minutesbeforecyclingthemachinetotheONor
START/RUNstate.Waiting3minutesprovidestheECM(s)timetoshutdown.
