Types of Computer

[PC]: The personal computer [PC]
defines a computer designed for general
use by an single person.

[Desktop]: A PC that is not designed
for a portability is a desktop computer.

[Laptop]: Also called notebooks ,
laptops are portable computer that
integrate the display , keyboard , a
pointing device or trackball, processor,
memory and hard drive all in batteryoperated package slightly larger than an
average hardcover book.

[Netbook]: Are ultra portable
computer that are even smaller than
traditional laptops.

[PDA]: Personal Digital Assistants
[PDAs] are tight integrated computer that
often use flash memory instead of hard
drive for storage.

[Workstation]: Another type of
computer is a workstation.

[Server]:A computer that has been
optimized to provide services to other
computers over a network.

[Mainframe]: In the computing,
mainframes were huge computers that
could full an entire room or even whole
floor!

[Supercomputer]: This type of
computer usually costs hundreds of
thousands or even millions of dollars.
10. [Wearable Computer]:The latest trend in
computing is wearable computer.

How PCs Works


a.[CPU]: The CPU, often just called the
processor, is the component that contains
the microprocessor.
b.[RAM]: The RAM is to the CPU as a
countertop is to a cook: It serves as the
place where the ingredients and tools

c. [ROM]: A type of non-volatile memory
used in computers and other electronic
devices. Data stored in ROM can only be
modified
d.[BIOS]: A set of computer instructions in
firmware that control input and output
operations.

inside your PC is its motherboard. All
components, inside and out, connect
through the motherboard in some way.
f. [Hard Disk]: High-capacity, self-contained
storage device containing a read-write
mechanism plus one or more hard disks,
inside a sealed unit.
g.[Operating System]: The software that
supports a computer's basic functions,
such as scheduling tasks, executing
applications, and controlling peripherals.
h.[Sound Card]: A device that can be slotted
into a computer to allow the use of audio
components for multimedia applications.

i. [Graphics Card]: A printed circuit board


that controls the output to a display
screen.
