Reelwell Drilling Method: Flow Control Unit Top Drive Adapter

The Reelwell Drilling Method uses a closed loop system with a Dual Drill String to circulate drilling fluid. Clean fluid flows down the annulus to the bit while returns with cuttings flow up the inner string. Static fluid is kept in the well annulus by a Rotary Control Device mounted above the Blowout Preventer. It provides separation of downhole flows to enable managed pressure drilling.

Reelwell Drilling Method (RDM) is a closed loop drilling system using a Dual Drill String.
Clean drilling fluid flows down to the bit via the annulus of the DDS (light blue),
and the return with cuttings (dark blue) is led to surface through the inner string.
The fluid in the well annulus is static (green) and kept in place by means of an RCD
mounted on top of the BOP.
