The document provides step-by-step instructions for solving a Rubik's Cube. It begins with an overview of the basic cube components and their color correlations. It then defines algorithms as procedures involving repeated operations used to solve the cube. The seven steps are: 1) solve the cross on one side, 2) solve the corner pieces, 3) solve the middle layer, 4) solve the top cross, 5) solve the top edge pieces, 6) place the top corners correctly, and 7) solve the final top corner positions. Key algorithms are provided for each step with notes on orientations and rotations.

BASIC UNDERSTANDING
Middle Piece 1 color (these will determine the color of the side)
The color of the middle piece has a direct correlation to the color of the
corresponding side. For example, if the middle piece on a specific side is
green, the entire side where that piece resides will be green.

Edge Piece 2 color

The colors of the edge pieces must correspond with the colors of the
middle pieces. The reason for this is that the edge pieces are where
two sides connect, therefore the colors of the respective sides must match.

Corner piece 3 colors

Just as the edge pieces must correspond with the middle pieces, the colors of
the corner pieces must correspong with the edge and middle pieces. This is where
three sides meet, therefore all of the colors must match for the cube to be solved.

WHAT IS AN ALGORITHM
Algorithm - a procedure for solving a mathematical problem in a finite
number of steps that frequently involves repetition of an operation.
The following are abbreviations for turns used when solving the cube:
Front F
Front Inverted - Fi
Right - R
Right Inverted Ri
Left L
Left Inverted Li
Up U
Up Inverted Ui
Down D
Down Inverted Di

STEP 1: SOLVE THE CROSS

STEP 2: SOLVE THE CORNERS

Algorithm Used: Ri Di R D

STEP 3: SOLVE THE MIDDLE LAYER

Algorithms Used:

Right: U R Ui Ri Ui Fi U F
Left: Ui Li U L U F Ui Fi

STEP 4: SOLVE THE TOP CROSS

Algorithm Used: F R U Ri Ui Fi
Four possible outcomes:
dot
line
half cross
full cross

STEP 5: SOLVE TOP EDGES

Algorithm Used: R U Ri U R U U Ri

Two possible outcomes:

Two sides match next to each other
Two sides match across from each other

STEP 6: TOP CORNER PLACEMENT

Algorithm Used: U R Ui Li U Ri Ui L

STEP 7: SOLVE TOP CORNERS

Algorithm Used: Ri Di R D

Key Notes:
Always make the final down rotation
Only rotate the top layer when moving on to the next corner. Not the whole
cube!
