Students will play partner tag.
Once one partner is tagged students will reverse roles.
On signal both partner freeze and one partner will attempt to mark the other and 1 point is earned.
Cues: Freeze Look to your surrounding when your running watch out for other groups
Part 2 Fitness Development ActivityParachute Fitness
Freeze, face the center, and stretch the chute
Jog while holding the chute in the left hand (music) (switch directions) 20 seconds each time
Shake the chute (no music) 40 seconds. While shaking the shoot teacher will direct the colors that will
be called on to run across the parachute.
Slide while holding the chute with both hands (40 seconds) (switch directions) (music)
Skip (music) 15-20 seconds (switch directions) 20 seconds each time
Lie on back with feet under the chute. Shake the chute with the feet (no music) 20 seconds
Part 3: Lesson Focus
Fundamental Skill 1: Sliding (8-10 minutes)
Line students in groups of 4; ask them to stand/ line behind a cone
Model to students what a slide is
Ask students to slide from one end of the cone to the other, when they get to the second cone, ask them
to switch direction (reverse), and slide back to place of origin (English concept: forward and backward).
Cues: Move side-to-side, and do not cross your feet
Ask student to repeat the slide without making noise. Cues: move slowly so you wont make any
noise
Ask students to choose a partner; partners will face each other and will slide to the end of the line while
holding both hands, reverse at the end, and slide back to the place of origin. Cues: Make sure you slide
in a steady pace, bend your knees, use your patella!
Secondly, ask partners to stand back-to-back, slide to the end, reverse, and slide back to place of origin.
Place a cone 1/3 of the way, and place a second cone on 2/3 of the way (area selected for activity); ask
students to slide in small lengths up to the first cone, then increase their slide by two feet and slide to
the second cone, increase the slide length about 3 feet until they reach the end . (Math Concept: Small,
medium and large).
Ask students to pretend to be basketball players; have them slide across pretending to be on defensive
mode. Cues: make sure not to cross your feet, make sure you do both small and large lengths of
slides.
