Flashing Custom Rom: Samsung

Galaxy Note 2, Step-by-Step

Feeling Left Out?

Have you ever had an app refuse to download, or update, just because your phone is
too old? Nothing is more irritating then being forced into buying new hardware
even though your phone is more than capable of running any app the Play Store
could throw at it. Fortunately for us, it is possible to update your aging phone, even
though the phone companies would have you think otherwise.

What will I need?

Its simple, all you need is this guide and four things:
-Samsung Galaxy Note 2
-USB Cord
-Computer
-All Tools software package

Getting Started:

First thing, go to this link on your computer https://mega.nz/#!EgdD2DyB!UBk6aoJy-Z


and download the All Tools software package. Inside of the package you will see a
folder named Kingo Root. Install kingoroot.exe onto your computer. Once this
program is installed on your computer you are ready to move onto unlocking your
phone for a new operating system.

Enable Development Settings and Debugging:

Before we can root our phones we must first enable development settings and
debugging. Without these two things we will not be able to root.

Go to the phone Settings


1. Select About Phone
2. Select Build Number several times
a. You will get a notification that says You have successfully enabled
developer settings!
3. Go back one screen
4. Select Developer Options

5. Select Android Debugging

a. A pop-up will ask Allow USB debugging?, select OK

Rooting:

Now that we have enabled debugging, we need to connect the phone to the
computer and root it.

1. Plug the phone into the computer with the USB cable
a. You will get a pop-up on your computer that asks Allow USB
debugging?, select Always Allow

2. Run the program we installed onto our computers earlier, Kingo Root
3. Follow the onscreen prompts
a. The computer and phone will both indicate that the two are
communicating
4. Select Root

a. The process will begin, and will take about 5-10 minutes to complete
b. You will get a pop-up stating Root Succeeded on both your computer
and phone when the process is complete

Installing Recovery Mode

Before we can install our new OS, we must first install a recovery program onto our
phones.
1. On your phone, open the Google Play Store app
2. Search for TWRP Manager (Requires Root)
3. Once you find the file in the Play Store, select Install
a. A pop-up will ask about allowing access, select Accept
4. When the TWRP Manager has finished installing, open it
a. A pop-up will ask about root permission, select Allow
5. Select Device Name
a. A pop-up will list several device types, scroll through until you find
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and select it
6. Select Recovery Version to Install
a. A pop-up list will ask which new version you would like, select TWRP
3.0.0-0
7. Select Install Recovery and this will begin the download
a. A pop-up will state Ensure the partition listed below make sure it
says /dev/block/mmcblkOp9
b. If so, select Yes

8. This will begin a process of flashing and verifying


a. Upon completion, you will get a pop-up that states Success!
b. You will then get another pop-up, select No

Get Software Package onto Phone

Now we will move the software package from our computer to our phones.
1. Connect the phone to the computer with the USB cord
2. On the computer, go to your start menu and select Devices
3. Find your phone (which should be listed because it is currently connected) and
open it
4. You will have two storage options, either Internal Storage or SD Card,
select whichever youd like
5. Select on a folder titled Android
6. Minimize the screen so you can see your desktop, where you have saved the
file titled All Tools
7. Right click on the All Tools folder, and select Copy
8. Right click anywhere in the space of the opened Android folder and click
Paste, in order to copy the contents of the All Tools folder into the
Android folder

a. You will get a pop-up asking Do you want to copy android root onto
your device? Select No, skip file
9. Once this is loaded, disconnect the phone from the computer

Rebooting Into Recovery Mode

Now its time to reboot your phone into what is called Recovery Mode. Once we are
in recovery mode, we will be able to do many useful things, such as creating a
backup of your entire system, and flashing the new OS onto your phone.
1. On the phone, you will need to hold down three buttons at the same time in
order to reboot into recovery mode. Those three buttons are:
a. Volume up button found on the right side
b. Power button found on the left side
c. Home button found on the bottom of the front screen

2. Hold these three down simultaneously for 15-20 seconds, and then let go, you
should now see a screen that looks like this:

3. Select Back Up
4. Make sure all of the boxes are selected and then swipe the bar at the bottom
of the screen that states Swipe to back up

a. The phone will complete back up and bring you back to the main menu
5. Select Wipe
6. Swipe the bar at the bottom of the screen, and this will begin factory reset

7. Hit the back button on your phone

8. Select Install

9. Select Android

10. Select All Tools


11. Select ResurrectionRemix
12. Swipe the bar at the bottom of the screen
a. This will load the software
13. Hit the back button on your phone
14. Select All Tools
15. Select Open Gapps

16. Swipe the bar at the bottom of the screen to begin the install of Gapps

17. Select Reboot System

You Did It!

After your device reboots, you will see that you now have the brand-new
Marshmallow 6.0 software on your phone, WITHOUT having to buy a new one.
Congratulations, and enjoy your up-to-date phone, with no more software related
restrictions.
