He expects students to arrive on time, participate in daily warm-ups, raise their hands to speak, and follow general rules regarding respectful behavior. Students must sign in/out when leaving class and can find missed work in their labeled folders. Assignments are to be turned into the designated tray and can be corrected for partial credit, while late work will incur a 10% penalty per day. General Information
WELCOME!
I hope you are all ready to learn!
Before we can start exploring the subject of Science together we need to establish my classroom expectations.
This document will help outline my expectations of you as students, as well as what you should expect from me as your
instructor this year.

Expectations and Goals

My goal as a teacher is to make learning about earth and space sciences as entertaining and relevant as possible.
I expect for you as students to comply with my expectations laid out in this paper to let this happen.

Starting Class
Entering the Classroom
After today there will be assigned seating, this will also be how we set up groupings for lab and group assignments.
I will meet you at the door as you enter every day that I can
You as students will enter quietly
You will arrive in my class on time
Once you have entered you will find your seat and begin the daily warm up that will be on the board.

Late?

Enter the classroom quietly and have a seat in your assigned seat without disturbing your fellow
classmates

Begin the Bell work and quietly complete that while you wait for me to give you further
instructions

Hang on to any late notes/slips until I come talk to you

Unexcused absences will cost you points if it continues repeatedly

1 warning

2 loss of attendance points for the day

3 15 min detention (before or after school)

4+ call home and meeting with principle

Warm Up
Every day there will be a Warm up activity or task for students to complete. I want to make sure that every day you
spend in my class you know what topic we are going to explore, and more importantly begin to think about why.
Examples of Warm ups can be:
Review questions from prior lectures or classes
Questions to think about for class discussions
Prep instructions for Lab/Activity days
You can always approach me if the Warm up is not clear.
When you are complete with you Warm up, please remain seated ready for Mr. G to being class.
Warm ups will take a very small portion of our time in class.

General Expectations for Class

Communication in Class
When we are in regular instruction time in class we will have a simple raise hand policy for questions and concerns.
Once I have called on the student, they can voice their question or concern.
Blurting out is not fair to other students, and it does not allow for structured conversations.
o

Excessive blurting or disrespect to the people talking will result in disciplinary actions in accordance to
the schools policy.

I follow the one and done rule in my class: After one warning I expect the behavior to stop
THIS DOSE NOT MEAN YOU GET ONE FREEBIE ONCE A DAY

Leaving the Classroom

Any time you a student needs to leave the classroombathroom, nurse, front desk request, water breakstudents must
sign out before leaving. There will be a sign-out sheet at the teachers desk located in the back of the classroom.
I understand that there are time when you will need to leave the class. I need you students to understand that you are
my responsibility.
Try to take care of bathroom breaks and water before class
Excessive use and or abuse of this policy can result in a temporary loss of privileges
Failing to correctly sign out/ in on the sheet can result in a temporary loss of privileges

Ending the Class time

At the end of our period I will always have an alarm set for 5 minutes before class ends. In that 5 minutes time we will
all (Mr. Granados included) will clean up our classroom together. We need to be respectful of our learning environment
and the class that will follow yours. This is also when students can begin to pack up their belongings to prepare to head
to their next classes. Students are to remain in their seats until I have dismissed them, not the bell.
My goal is to dismiss you on time for your next class.
If the room is messy, or students are not in their seats I will hold the entire class until we are ready to leave.

Absences
Work Missed
There is a folder that has your name on it in a box in the back of the class room. Any time you are absent there will be
any notes, handouts, and homework that you missed.
You are responsible for completing the missed work. It is always due by the following Monday. This will allow you to
not feel like you are playing catch up
I encourage you to come see me at lunch, before, or after school if you would like help with missed work.
o

This is at my discretion and or availability

You or your parents can always email me or message me through the class Edmodo page to request missed work for
extended absences.
The school has strict policies about ditching and excessive unexcused absences. These can include suspension and or
expulsions. So be sure to have parents notify the school of any excusable absences like doctor visits etc.

Assignment Policies
Turning in work
There are only three ways I will receive completed work from students in my class. Whether it is individual or group
work they will be turn into the following places:
There is a tray on the back teacher table labeled by the hour of your class (1-8) where you will turn in physical copies
of work including journals, handouts, and worksheets.
From time to time we will have electronic documents to turn in through google classroom or on the Edmodo Class
page.
Last Tests and Quizzes will be collected directly by me
Work without names will be placed in a tray at the back of the room. It is your responsibility to check if any of this
work is yours.

Extra Credit Nope, but you can finish what you missed.
I offer no extra credit assignments. Instead, all assignments and quizzes can be corrected for half of the missed points.
This does NOT apply to tests
Corrections need to be completed as soon as possible. I do not accept correction work 1 week prior to a grading
period.
ALL work turned in early will receive 1 pt. of extra credit WARNING--- DONT RUSH and miss more points

Late Work
If I do not receive an assignment by the end of the day that it is due (11:59 via email or google classroom) the
assignment is now late
10% (a letter grade) will be deducted from the total earned for every day it is late to a max of a 50% reduction (F)
Failure to turn in an assignment will result in a 0 in the grade book
You cannot turn in late work 1 week prior to a grading period
This deduction is applied after correction points
o

Example Original Score 60/100 1 Day late

The student corrects the missed points 40 missed points half is applied 80/100 = 80%

Then the late deduction happens 80%- 10% = 70% ----- STILL WAY BETTER THAN A 0
