theeldofamagnetbyaexure.Currentowingthroughthecoilgeneratesaxial
movementofthecoilandexure.Theexuremovesagainsttheendofanozzle,and
createsabackpressureinthenozzlebyrestrictingairowthroughit.Thisback
pressureactsasapilotpressuretoanintegralboosterrelay.Consequently,asthe
inputsignalincreases(ordecreases,forreverseacting),outputpressureincreases
proportionally.Zeroandspanarecalibratedbyturningeasilyaccessibleadjusting
screwsonthefrontfaceoftheunit.Thezeroadjustingscrewcausesthenozzleto
moverelativetotheexure.Thespanadjustingscrewisapotentiometerthatlimits
thecurrentthroughthecoil.Athermistorcircuitinserieswiththecoilprovides
temperaturecompensation.
