InTASC #8
InTASC Standard #8 deals with the teacher understanding and utilizing different types of
instruction for the student. This helps the student to understand the content at hand, and helps
them build skills that help to apply knowledge in different ways.
In the classroom, the teacher needs to do different things in order for their instruction to
be a success. The teacher needs to use the correct resources and techniques to help the students to
adapt to the instruction. They also need to monitor the students work and have one on one time to
discuss where they stand in the class. The teacher should not only be a teacher, but a mentor or
friend, in an appropriate manner to allow the student to have a comfortable relationship with
their teacher. When instructing the class, the teacher needs to use models and any visual aid to
allow the student to better understand content. On top of that, the students need to be engaged in
develop better questioning skills. The teacher needs to use different instruction to help the
students communication skills. They also should ask questions the challenge the students to
think about the content in different ways.
The teacher needs to have knowledge in how to promote instruction in the classroom. The
teacher in the classroom needs to know how students learn through the cognitive process. They
also need to know how to jump start these processes within the student. They have to know how
to use different instruction strategies to help the students understand the content better. Not only
do they have to know how to use these instructional strategies, they have to know the correct
time to implement them for the lesson to be a success. Knowing that media and technology can
support the students learning is very important to help the students see different types of
instruction.
The teacher should show their students that they are committed to learning the strengths
and weaknesses of the them, and that they are going to keep this in interest when making their
instruction. They should also show the students that they promote all types of communication in
the classroom. They should also show the students that they are welcome to using technology in
the classroom assuming it is the appropriate time.
