Directional Coupler Using MWO PDF

This document provides information on designing directional couplers using AWR Microwave Office software. It includes the basics of directional couplers, an example of designing a 20dB coupler at 9GHz, and another example at 3GHz. Simulation results are shown plotting coupling and directivity from 1-5GHz. The document concludes with an example of a 20dB stripline coupler design at 3GHz, including losses, and calculations to determine the even and odd mode impedances and line widths/spacing.

Example 4 *:
Design a 20dB single-section coupled line coupler in stripline
with ground plane spacing of 0.32cm, dielectric constant of 2.2,
characteristic impedance of 50 Ohm, and a center frequency of
3GHz. Plot the coupling and
directivity from 1 to 5GHz.
Include the effect of losses by assuming a loss tangent of 0.05 for dielectric
material, and copper conductor s of 2mil thickness.
