Grading Policy:
I will work diligently to ensure that all work is graded and returned in a timely manner, but
reserve the right to extend time needed for grading. Quizzes and homework assignments will
usually be returned next day; however, essays, tests, midterms, and other projects may take up to
one (1) week. Grades will be posted daily and are always accessible on StudentVue.

Attendance Policy:
Participation points are earned weekly through classroom discussion and daily exercises;
therefore, regular attendance is a required activity to pass this class. Students with an excused
absence(s) will be allowed to complete make-up work.
Make-Up Work:
Students must ask for any missed assignments upon returning to class from their absence,
and are granted one day for everyday absent to complete any make-up work

Late Work:
All assignments are due on the due date at the beginning of class. Any assignments turned in
after class will be considered late and receive a 10% grade reduction for the first day and 50%
thereafter.

Classroom Rules and Consequences:

Rules and consequences are a necessity for a classroom to function properly. However, if rules
are to be enforced, both rules and consequences must be reasonable; therefore, to prevent a
conflict of interest, all rules and consequences adhere to district and school handbook policies.
Any rule breaking will be met with an appropriate response and proper documentation. To help

Mr. Haynes

foster a productive and enriching environment, all rules and consequences will be taught,
retaught and posted around the classroom.
Rules:
1. Students will keep their bodily appendages to themselves.
2. Only one person may talk at a time, and all classroom discussion will use
appropriate language.
3. All electronics are turned off and put away before entering class.
4. Food and drink will be consumed outside of class.
5. Students will remain on task until the teacher dismisses the class.
Consequences:
1st Offense Warning and Student Conference
2nd Offense Call Home
3rd Offense Detention and Call Home
4th Offense Administrative Referral
**I reserve the right to skip consequences based upon the severity of the violation.
Each of the classroom rules and consequences reflect my personal belief that respect for others is
the primary component for an educational setting and that all students should be treated fairly
and according to the needs of the individual; therefore, all student 504s and IEPs will be
followed to the letter, insuring each student has the tools for academic success.

Additional Resources:
Students looking for additional help with course work are encouraged to see me during advisory
period or to make an appointment for after school. I am also available to answer questions
through email and will respond within 24 hours. Further help is available through school tutoring
programs.

Entrance Procedure:

Mr. Haynes

Senior English

I will greet students at the door dailywelcoming them to class. Upon entering the classroom,
students will turn in their homework and pick up any handouts for the day. After turning in their
homework and picking up the handouts, students will begin working on the bell-ringer
exercise posted on the board. While students are working on bell-work, I will hand back all
previously graded assignments.

Restroom Procedure:
Students are expected to use the restroom before entering class and as such, bathroom breaks will
be limited. Furthermore, students must ask teacher permission to use the restroom, have their
agenda signed, and carry their ID badges with them when traveling through the halls.

Exit Procedure:
Each class will end with a short closure activity to reinforce the days learning. Closure activities
will be posted on the board and are designed to inform the teacher of student comprehension.
Students will use the same paper from their bell-ringer exercise for the closure activity. After
completing the closure, students will sit quietly at their desk until the teacher dismisses class. At
dismissal, students will turn in their bell-ringer and closure activities at the homework station.

Communication with Home:

Guardians will be contacted to be kept informed of classroom assignments and activities, as well
as to address any academic or behavioral issues. For non-academic or behavior related
communication, I will send a guardian an e-mail or send the student home with a letter to be
signed and returned. When addressing academic or behavioral problems I will call the guardian.
If I am unable to reach the guardian, I will make follow up attempts through phone calls, letters,
and e-mails.

Consideration for Diverse Learners:

All lessons will be designed to address the individual learning styles of students. I will follow all
IEPs and 504s exactly as written. Additionally, one-on-one instruction is available by
appointment for all students wishing to receive extra help with assignments after school.

Mr. Haynes

To the Students:
I promise to do my best in teaching you everything possible to help ensure your success both in
and out of the classroom. I have personally chosen all of our readings in the hope that you will
learn more about the human condition, society, and what we can do as individuals to improve our
conditions and the conditions of those around us through self-expression. Please, throughout the
year keep in mind that I am always available for extra assistance with school work. I hope youll
enjoy this class as much as I enjoy teaching it.
Good luck seniors! I hope your last year is your best year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Haynes
