Team Warm-Up
Control dribble, while jogging forward, stop the ball, drag the ball, turn, and dribble in the
opposite direction, in general space five times turning right and five times turning left.
Task 1: 1 vs. 1
Task Focus: Reposition body to maintain possession. This is not about speed.
P1 will control dribble in straight/curved/zigzag pathways (general space) while moving at
medium/slow speeds while P2 attempts to mark the dribbler (semi-active D). Partners should not
make contact but can attempt to steal the ball.
Cues: Control the ball, protect the ball (ball-you-defender - see picture 3) Move the ball.

Refinement: Make sure dribbler is using turns, cuts, fakes to move the ball around D
Application: Play knock out. P1 dribbles and move ball around general space with control
while marker tries to knock ball out of bounds. Play for 30 seconds keeping score. Offense
gets 5 points for having no more than 3 knock outs AND point if D makes contact when marking
the ball. Defense gets 1 pt. per knock out. Will compete against another team

Task 2: Inside-foot Passing and Trapping


(Set up: Partners, 1 ball, 15 feet apart)
P1 uses inside-foot to pass, P2 does sole trap a ball to receive.
Task Focus: pass and receive with control
Cues: See below

Must go to all gates before repeating any
Cues: Dribbling
- Head up, toe down, ankle locked, push on each step

Set up: 5 gates

Application Task:
See how many gates you (under control) can pass through in 45 sec.
Rule: Cant go through the same gate twice in a row

Task 6: 2-on-1 Keep away


In groups of three, partners A and B will play a game of keep-away from partner C, who is
playing active defense.
P1 & P2 should use inside- and outside-of-foot passes, the sole and inside-of-foot traps, and the
control and speed dribble. The defender must mark opponents attempting to prevent the offense
from maintaining possession of the ball and passing repeatedly. Rotate after 1 minute.
Application: How many passes can you complete in 40 sec? Remember your score.
Inter-team competition

Objectives:
Demonstrate ability to pass
Demonstrate the following traps: sole and inside of foot
Goals:
Achieve the maximum number of pass and trap combinations
Application Description:
This is a 3 v 1 competition. The offense must initiate play from the center cone by passing
the ball to a teammate. After the ball is in play, the offence must pass the ball to one another.
Prior to each pass, the offensive player must successfully trap and then dribble the ball in
order for the pass to count as a score. If the defense intercepts, tackles, or otherwise disrupts

offensive play, the offense retains possession and must restart play at the center cone. The
competition will last for 4 40-second trials with possession of the ball changing on each new
40-second trial. Defensive players will rotate after each trial.
Scorekeepers Guidelines:
1 point per successfully completed pass that preceded by a trap and dribble (passer
receive point).
Combine all team points for each trial for a total team score.
Officials Guidelines:
No points awarded if a pass is not preceded by a trap and dribble.
No points awarded if pass is incomplete.
No points awarded if a pass other than an inside- or outside-of foot-is used.
