PARTS OF THE
HUMAN EYE

(COMMON
EYESIGHT
PROBLEM)

Cornea allows the eye

to properly focus on
light more effectively

Sclera provides
structure and safety for
the inner workings of
the eye, but is also
flexible so that the eye
can move to seek out
objects as necessary.

Pupil appears as a
black dot in the middle
of the eye that is
actually a hole that takes
in light so the eye can
focus on the objects in
front of it.

Iris contains the

pigment which gives the
eye its color.

Conjunctiva Glands
help keep the outside of
the eye moist.

Lacrimal Glands they

produce tears.

Lens clear layer that

focuses the light the
pupil takes in.

Retina transmit the

images the eye sees to
the brain so they can be
interpreted.

Ciliary Body holds

and controls the
movement of the eye
lens.

Choroid provides
blood supply to the eye.

Vitreous Humor helps

hold its shape.

What is refraction?
Refraction is the bending of
light as it passes through one
object to another.
DIFFERENT TYPES:
Nearsightedness (also called
myopia) is a condition where
objects up close appear clearly,
while objects far away appear
blurry.
Farsightedness (also called
hyperopia) is a common type of
refractive error where distant
objects may be seen more
clearly than objects that are
near.
Astigmatism is a condition in
which the eye does not focus
light evenly onto the retina, the
light-sensitive tissue at the back
of the eye. This can cause
images to appear blurry and
stretched out.
Presbyopia is an age-related
condition in which the ability to
focus up close becomes more
difficult.

Aqueous Humor
maintains eye shape.
