This document outlines strategies for engaging multiple intelligences and meeting the needs of diverse learners in a lesson about fossils. It provides examples of activities targeting different intelligences, such as making fossils to engage bodily-kinesthetic learners. It also describes how lessons can be tailored for both high-level and low-level learners, such as giving challenging research tasks to high-level students and scaffolded support and prompting to low-level students. The goal is to engage all students through varied activities and appropriately leveled material.

Multiple Intelligences Matrix

In every lesson there should be different types of intelligences being utilized. Every
student learns in a different way so to be able to engage each student the teacher should
make sure that all the intelligences are being met by using different strategies.

Bodily-Kinesthetic

Making fossils in fossil dough

Musical - Rhythic

Videos with songs

Interpersonal

Turn and talk

Group work with Alabama dinosaurs

Intrapersonal

By yourself practice work and

formative assessments

Linguistic

Group brainstorming

Logical- Mathematical

The students will find out ages and

places where fossils are found.

Naturalistic

The students will watch videos of

fossils being found in our environment
and how they can go outside and
discover fossils on their own.

Bodily/ Kinesthetic

The students will make their own

fossils for each type of fossil we learn
about in the unit.

Musical/ Rhythmic

We will learn a song about

paleontologists and sing along to
remember what a paleontologists does.

Plan for Individual Learners

In every classroom there are different types of learners. It is very important for the
teacher to make sure each type of learner is learning to the best of their ability. It is
important to have more challenging activities for those who are higher-level learner and
to have more scaffolded activities for those who are lower-level learners.

Lesson 4

High level- I will have the students

research fossils and share facts with
the class.
Low Level- I will prompt the
students with the exit slip and let
them discuss with their peers.
High Level-I will give the students
who finish their practice worksheet
early a reading worksheet for them
to read and answer questions about
how fossils are formed.
Low Level- I will prompt the
students when they are putting the
steps for how a fossil is formed in
order.
High Level- I will give the students
an index card for them to write the
characteristics of their fossil on to
glue on the back of their paper
plate.
Lower Level- I will walk around
the room and help the students who
are struggling with their what
stuck with me assessment and talk
through the different things we
learned together as a class.
High lever learners- I will have
these students write a fiction
paragraph explaining their fossil
and where they found it. I will
make sure the students include the
characteristics of a cast fossil as
they do this.
Low level students- I will walk
around the room and make sure

these students understand the major

differences between cast and mold
fossils. I will show them pictures
one-on-one and point out the
differences to reiterate what I am
telling them.

Lesson 6

Lesson 7

Lesson 8

High level- I will have these

students go home and make their
own trace fossils using objects they
find outside.
Low level- I will help remind the
students of what we learned and use
questions to prompt their answers.
Higher level: I will have the
students switch papers after 1
minute with a neighbor and they
will have 30 seconds to add to what
their partner said on their paper.
Lower Level: I will read the
students assessment answers and
give them extra time if needed.
Low level- I will be walking
around the room and will help those
students who need reminding of
what a paleontologist is and the
different tools they use while they
complete the assessment sheet.
High level- I will give have the
students choose a paleontologists to
make a biography poster on to
present to the class. They will need
to research a paleontologist and
learn about what types of fossils
they find and what they have
discovered about the earth since
being a paleontologist
Higher level- I will have these
students find the newest type of
dinosaur fossil found in Alabama

and research more about it and

present to the class. We did not
learn about this fossil in the
PowerPoint.
Lower level- I will go around the
room and help those students to use
their website to navigate and find
the information on their sheet.
Low level- I will be walking around
the room and will prompt the
students who are struggling with
remembering which energies are
non-renewable and renewable
energies.
High level- I will have these
students research how fossil fuels
can hurt out environment and they
will present to the class to inform
their peers about how harmful fossil
fuels can be.
Low-level: I will have these
students work with a partner during
the kahoot to answer questions and
they will be able to discuss while
they are trying to answer the
question.
High-level: I will have these
students give me explanations for
why they chose the answer on the
kahoot.
