Course Description

This course is designed to develop and enhance knowledge, skills, and attitudes of a
Computer Systems Service Technician in accordance with industry standards. It covers
basic and common competencies in addition to the core competencies such as to install
pand configure computer systems, set-up computer networks and servers and to maintain
and repair computer systems and networks.
Entry Requirements:
Candidate/trainee must posses the following qualifications, must be:

Able to communicate both oral and written

LO4. RECTIFY/CORRECT DEFECTS IN COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Appropriate personal protective equipment is used in line with standard procedures.
2. Defective components or parts are replaced or corrected without damage to the
surrounding environment or services
3. Adjustments, if necessary are made in accordance with established procedures
4. Unplanned events or conditions are responded to in accordance with established
procedures.
CONTENTS:
1. Replace defective components or parts without damaging the surrounding
environment or services
2. Make adjustments, if necessary

CONDITIONS:
The students/trainees must be provided with the following:
Cable plan/procedural manual
Raceway
Personal protective equipment
Gloves and goggles
Masks
Anti-static wrist wraps
Materials
Contact cleaners/ soap or detergents
Dust brush
Chamois or rags
Basin/ water
Cable tie
Patch panel
Modular box

Diagnostics software and CD-ROMs
Tools and test equipment

LO5. INSPECT AND TEST THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Final inspections are undertaken to ensure that the testing conducted on the device
conforms with the manufacturers instruction/manual
2. Computer systems and networks are checked/tested to ensure safe operation.
3. Work site is cleaned and cleared of all debris and left in safe condition in accordance
with company procedures
4. Excess components and materials are disposed of based on WEEE directives and
3Rs waste management program.
5. Report is prepared and completed according to company requirements
.
CONTENTS:
1. Undertake final inspections
2. Check and test computer systems and networks
3. Clear work site from all wastes
4. Follow 5S and 4Rs according to environmental policies
5. Prepare and complete reports

What is Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)

A competency-based curriculum is a framework or guide for the

subsequent detailed development of competencies, associated
methodologies, training and assessment resources.

The CBC specifies the outcomes which are consistent with the
requirements of the workplace as agreed through the industry or
community consultations.

CBC can be developed immediately when competency standards exist.

When competency standards do not exist, curriculum developers need

to clearly define the learning outcomes to be attained. The standard of
performance required must be appropriate to industry and occupational
needs through the industry/enterprise or specified client group
consultations.
