Fire-Resistance Rating Requirements

The document presents Table 601 from the building code which specifies the required fire resistance ratings for building elements in different construction types. It states that for all construction types, walls must have a minimum 1 hour fire resistance rating. The table then lists the required fire resistance ratings in hours for primary structural frames, bearing walls, non-bearing walls, floor construction, and roof construction according to the five construction types.

required.
d. An approved automatic sprinkler system in accordance with Section 903.3.1.1 shall be allowed to
be substituted for I-hour-fire-resistance-rated construction, provided such system is not otherwise
required by other provisions of the code or used for an allowable area increase in accordance with
Section 506.3 or an allowable height increase in accordance with Section 504.2. The I-hour substitution
for the fire resistance of exterior walls shall not be permitted.
