Class Policies:
Participation: Participation is mandatory. You have a difficult time passing this
class if you do not participate. Participation includes complete in and out of
class work, adding to class discussions, and answering questions. This helps
me to know that you understand the material and it helps you to be vocal
about any questions or roadblocks you encounter. This class will provide an
open forum where you should feel welcome to ask for help.
Instructors Expectations: This is a high school course. As such I expect that
you will take the course seriously and behave in a mature manner. This means
you are expected to:
1. Be prepared. You must complete the homework and in-class work,
and show up ready to take notes and participate in class.
2. Participate. You must ask questions, participate in activities, and
practice in order to be successful.
3. Be respectful.
4. Use proper English. Different environments call for different forms of
language. The way you speak in class should be more formal than the
way you speak when hanging out with your friends. This is good
practice for when you are in the workforce.
Behavior Policy: As high school students I expect you to require very little
redirection with regard to behavior. If you are violating any of the above
someone else and include it in your work without giving credit, even if you put
it into your own words. Blatant plagiarism (the copy and paste type) will result
in an automatic zero on the assignment. I will also follow any policies the
school has in place regarding academic dishonesty/cheating. Other forms of
plagiarism will be dealt with on a case by case basis however they all will have
a negative impact on your grade. I may not catch every single case of
plagiarism but I do catch many of them. Remember, I know how to use Google
too!
Contacting the Instructor:
E-mail is the best way for you to contact me outside of my office hours. Please
make sure to include in the emails subject line your full name, first and last,
as well as the class name and time. For example, John Smith ALG 1 3rd period.
You should maintain a mature tone. Use complete sentences and refrain from
text speak. Make sure to end your email with a closing and your full name. If
we engage in an email conversation following the first email you may omit the
salutation and closing but should continue to maintain an academic tone.
Supplemental Help: *include school resource centers here*
