08 The Rider Waite Smith Deck Tarot Heritage

The document discusses the creation and history of the Rider Waite Smith Tarot deck. A.E. Waite commissioned Pamela Colman Smith to illustrate the deck in 1909. While Waite focused on the symbolism and meanings, Smith had artistic freedom in creating the minor arcana images. The deck became very popular and influenced many subsequent decks through its widespread use and familiar imagery. It has endured as the most widely recognized tarot deck internationally.
