This project proposal seeks to create a garden in the atrium of the College of Engineering and Architecture building at Polytechnic University of the Philippines. The garden will provide environmental benefits and increase student awareness of nature. The garden will feature Santan shrubs, Japanese bamboo, large palm trees, and hanging Boston ferns planted throughout the atrium. A detailed layout and cost estimate of P21,300 are included for the necessary plants, soil, and other materials. 1. Introduction

2. PURPOSE

To create a green spot in an infrastructure such as the school

building, in which it will provide ecosystem service to mitigate
the impact of environmental degradation and the increasing
concentration of the nations population in cities.
To enable students to increase their awareness about the
environment by engaging themselves in this project.
To expose the students in appreciating nature and respecting the
environment.

3. Project Description

3.1 Materials
A. Loam Soil

B. Santan

C. Japanese Bamboo

D. Palmera

E. Boston Fern

3.2 PLAN LAYOUT

The site of the proposal is on the College of Engineering and

Architecture Atrium located inside the building. It is an 8.82m x 11.82m open
space surrounded by series of plant boxes which will be the subject of this
proposal.
It is proposed that the plant boxes will be filled with 5.52 cu. m. of
moist dirt mixed with sufficient fertilizers. Japanese Bamboos will be planted
on three corner of the plant boxes while the remaining spaces will be filled
with a series of flowering shrubs of Santan. On the gaps on both sides of the
area will be placed two large pots planted with Palmera. Since the first
storey is too elevated, it is proposed to place hanging plants such as Boston
Ferns, which will be located on the front and rear side of the area.
The layout is planned with pattern and symmetry sufficed by only four
varieties of plants to avoid being over decorated and unpleasing to the eye.
