WHAT IS A MODIFIER?
A modifier is a word or a group of words
that are used to describe and add
information to another word or group of
words. !
Example: While walking down the street,
Nina saw a big red bus. !

A dangling modifier is when the modifying
word/words are missing in the sentence.!
Dangling modifiers can confuse people to
what the modifier is trying to modify
because it is unclear.!
It is different to a misplaced modifier
because it is when the modifier is
separated from they word it is intended to
modify. !

MODIFIERS
When the modified word/words in a
sentence are missing, you could identify it
as a dangling modifier.!
The sentences confuse people because it
has modifiers that usually makes no
sense.!
EXAMPLES OF
DANGLING MODIFIERS
Once revised then corrected, I got an A. !
Having finished my homework, the TV was
turned on. !
Driving down the road, the cat was hit by
a truck.!
The phrases underlined are dangling
modifier because it words they are
modifying does not make sense.!
CORRECTING
DANGLING MODIFIERS
To correct a dangling modifier, you will
need to add in a word/words in order to
make the sentence more clearly. !
Example: Driving down the road, the cat
was hit by a truck.!
Correct: Driving down the road, the truck
driver hit the cat.!
Adding the truck driver makes the
sentence clear. !
