Evidence to support attainment of this standard:
Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
During the school year, I communicate with students, parents, and staff members continuously about student
achievement. This is an important step for student learning. One of those forms of communication is sending a report
card home to parents. This allows the parents to see what we have been covering in the classroom and how their student
is progressing. The student report card is just one form of communication that happens throughout the school year. By
the time the parents are receiving the report card in the fall, I have already sent home a progress report and the parents
and I have met for conferences. Each of these pieces helps me to communicate with parents. It also gives me the
opportunity to see how my students are doing with the content that we have covered. I am able to see if there is a skill
that my students as a whole are struggling with or exceeding at so that I can evaluate and alter my instruction.
Reflection on artifact:
I feel that sending report cards home is beneficial to the students, parents, and to me. It gives a great opportunity for
parents to see how their student is currently doing in the classroom. I think it also gives families a chance to talk about
how the student is doing in school and see where there may be room for improvement. On each report card, I add
comments about the students performance in the classroom, both academically and behaviorally. I would like to work
on adding more comments to all of the students report cards. I feel that these are very beneficial to both the parents and
the students. The more information that can be provided to parents the better.
