affect if not properly balanced. This would be hazardous to students because they could become
dependent on technology and not sharpen their minds with traditional study methods.
The TIM is designed to assist schools and districts in evaluating the level of technology
integration in classrooms and to provide teachers with models of how technology can be
integrated throughout instruction in meaningful ways. (Arizona Technology Integration Matrix)
Technology can have a positive effects on students when used properly because it can heighten the
learning experience. It also has to be easy for the teacher to use or it will take away from the lesson
rather than then adding to it. Noah Tonk says, If it takes me longer than ten minutes to learn how to use
I dont have time for that (Royal, K., 2008, Creating Technology Literate Educators). I will do my
best to utilize technology in my classrooms to bring visual to the subject being taught. I will use
technology to explore, demonstrate, and to encourage interaction between students within the classroom
as well as around the world. I will blend technology into my lesson material in a way that will
encourage participation and keep the attention of my students. I will also be careful to protect my
students from potential dangers of the use of technology and I will use technology to make learning fun.
Technology Tools I Plan to Use
There are numerous tools that could be utilized to enhance the learning experience of my
students. I believe that the iPad and the Interactive White Board would be two great tools to assist me
with lesson presentation. I also believe that blogging is a good tool to enhance interactive learning. I
plan to use the iPad in order to give students an opportunity to work independently on things like math
skills, grammar and English; as well as, their writing skills. Because the iPad is small, it will work
nicely for sending students to the library or study hall. The iPad could even be sent home with a student
to complete homework assignments. The interactive white board is a great tool that I would use for
group presentation and discussion. The interactive white board is large and will allow for a good size
visual to enhance the lesson material. The content can be simple for younger grades and it can be more
complex for older grades. Blogging is a tool that I can use to help students improve their writing skills.
A blog does not just develop online communication skills. Instead, online communication has become
an essential aspect of online reading comprehension (Castek et al., 2007). I will also use blogging to
communicate class assignments to students and to keep parents informed. These forms of technology
integrated with the traditional teaching will help my students to hear, see, and interact with the lessons
that are being taught.
Conclusion
So, with the plans that I have for utilizing technology to enhance my teaching and the technology
tools that I have chosen to make this happen, I believe that the students in my class will benefit greatly.
I believe that they will leave my class with the lesson topic clearly understood and they will have
mastered any technique necessary to complete the required assignments. I know that my students will
have a fun and fulfilling lesson experience that will build their education platform. Technology is
rapidly changing and improving and we can use this amazing tool in a variety of grade ranges. Students
with all types of abilities and disabilities, will benefit from the tools of technology in their classrooms. I
encourage all educators to Integrate Instructional Technology into their classroom teaching.
