Alignment
This lesson gives an introduction to simple grammar and sentence structure. It
gives the students a peek at the different parts of speech which they will all learn
throughout their second grade year. This provides the simple building blocks on which
they can develop their understanding of basic grammar.
Standards
Common Core: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.2.1: Demonstrate command of the
conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.2.1.a: Use collective nouns (e.g., group).
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.2.1.d: Form and use the past tense of
frequently occurring irregular verbs (e.g., sat, hid, told).
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.2.1.e: Use adjectives and adverbs, and
choose between them depending on what is to be modified.
ISTE-NETS-S: Design and develop digital age learning experiences and
assessments. Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and
assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content
