Councilmember Todd Gloria: News From City of San Diego District Three

Councilmember Todd Gloria commented on appealing a recent ruling on Proposition B, stating that claims it would save taxpayers money and end pension conflicts have proven false as ongoing litigation will cost millions and leave the issue unresolved for years. He hopes the appeals court will make a swift decision and expressed concern over findings that the city failed to meet obligations to employees and potential political misuse of public resources. Gloria also assured the public that the city will continue paying pension costs fully and on time.

Councilmember Gloria Comments on Appealing Prop B Decision

SAN DIEGO, CA (January 12, 2016) Councilmember Todd Gloria today released the
statement below about appealing Public Employment Relations Boards (PERB) ruling on
Proposition B.
San Diegans were told that Proposition B would save taxpayers money and end the
City's pension conflicts. It is becoming clear that those claims were false. Ongoing
litigation, with near certain appeal up to the Supreme Court, will cost taxpayers millions
and leave the pension issue unresolved for years to come.
I hope that the Court of Appeals will take up this case and issue a decision swiftly,
particularly in light of the troubling findings of PERB with regard to the City's alleged
avoidance of its obligations to meet and confer with its employees and the political
activities that may have been executed with public resources.
In the meantime, as Budget Committee Chairman, I want to assure the public that the
City will continue to pay its pension bill in full and on time, just as it has done for over a
decade. We have done this despite the incredible financial challenges of the Great
Recession and the increased pension costs caused by Proposition B.
