Images Formats

JPEG is best for photos with gradients and rich colors as it provides great compression with small file sizes but some loss of image quality. PNG is lossless but larger in size, supporting transparency and animation. GIF is best for simple images and animations as it limits the number of colors and has wide browser support. BMP is uncompressed so largest in size but highest quality, used for screenshots and medical/mapping images.
