Concept A Model

The document discusses the Concept Attainment Model, which is designed to help students deepen their understanding of concepts they already have some knowledge of. It involves providing students with examples and non-examples of a concept to practice critical thinking and hypothesis testing, similar to the scientific method. Students sequence examples hypothetically and define the concept by listing characteristics. The model allows teachers to assess student understanding of concepts and critical thinking skills.

Ideas

Provide students with practice in critical thinking and hypothesis testing in the context of scientific method.

Plan by identifying a specific concept and creating or finding examples and non examples of the concept. After
completing examples, sequence hypothetically. Ends when concept is defined and characteristics are listed.

Use a familiar model first with the students before introducing something new.

Teachers can assess learners understanding of concepts as well as their ability to think critically.
