Imperialism affected invaded populations both positively and negatively. While it created economic opportunities for invading countries by encouraging trade between colonies and the colonizing power, indigenous people did not always benefit and their lands were sometimes exploited. However, imperialism also introduced concepts like Western laws and governance that helped modernize formerly colonized societies. The cultural exchange between colonizers and colonized groups influenced things like fashion, religion, and technology globally and continues to shape cultures today for good or ill. Ultimately, history favors the conquering empires, and imperialism drove economic and social changes, even if mistreatment of local populations also occurred under colonial rule.

How does imperialism affected the invaded populations?

The Footprint of Imperialism.

The British Empire, also knows as the Empire on which the sun
never sets. The British Empire was probably one of the most glorious
empires to ever stand; it is even more successful than the Roman
Empire or the Mongol empire because Great Britain is still one of the
worlds greatest super powers. Many other European empires such as
the French and German are viewed as some of the most successful
because their countries still stand strong and have a strong say in the
world. All these empires succeeded through the adoption of
imperialism. A technique or practice to gain a nation more power by
controlling other lands and territory for economic growth and labor.
Imperialism is not necessarily a good thing, but it was and still is
necessary in order to have the modern and progressive world we live in
today. Along with imperialism came economic opportunities and
cultural diffusion.
An empire would not settle land for just fun and pleasure; there
was always a motive behind it. Imperialism created extraordinary
economic opportunities for the invading country. In many cases the
indigenous people did not benefit at all from their lands colonization,
but in many cases imperialism helped the invaded land economically
while it was a colony and in post independence. It promoted the free
movement of goods, capital and labor and introduced western norms
of law, order and governance, catapulting the world into the modern
era. (Niall Ferguson) Trade was encouraged between the mother
country and its colony, which led to an economic growth in both
countries. If the Invading country played their cards right, they could
be one of the greatest empires in the world and continue to do so for
years to come. After the colonies gained their independence, they
could use what they learned from their colonizer to compete on the
global market and sustain a modern nation.
Now it is clear that the empires who colonize get the most out of
imperialism, however there is a more human aspect to imperialism.
Cultural diffusion is spread through it and will probably change both
countries for good, ideas are spread, culture, religion and even modern
technologies can be shared through out the world. The interaction of
different cultures may thus be viewed as a positive process in that it
engenders variety which in turn leads to enrichment and expansion
(umc) Most of the world today has been affected by globalization; we
see jeans in India, McDonalds in Switzerland and sushi in Scotland.
Colonizers share their more progressive culture and modern
technologies to the natives of a colony, who in turn use it to better
their homeland. It goes both ways as well. Old indigenous traditions

can be adopted in the mighty empires to affect certain policies or even

religion.

Imperialism has shaped our world for the better. Yes it is true that
several empires mistreated the native people and abused their land,
and some still do, but history is a game for the conquerors. If you are
not ready to fight, you are only preparing for defeat. Imperialism
brought about several beneficial changes such as economic
opportunities and cultural diffusion; we must progress with the world
and develop as human beings.
