New Tools To Use!

Desired Results:
The purpose of this unit is to provide faculty members with an opportunity to learn how to use
new web 2.0 tools effectively in their classroom. As a former classroom teacher, I understand
the time constraints that they are under. The goal of this unit is to help enable teachers to feel
comfortable using technology in their lessons.

Essential Questions:

How can I use Web 2.0 tools to engage my students?


How can I use Web 2.0 tools to help my students with higher order thinking skills?
How can my students use Web 2.0 tools to present information?

Objectives:
After the professional development lesson, teachers will be able to:

Use Nearpod to create a lesson.


Create a Voki.
Create a Blendspace.

Learning Activities:
1. Explain the purpose of and goal of the professional development.
2. Introduce the tools that are included in this unit. Tools included are: Nearpod, Voki, and
Blendspace. Give teachers a handout to help them take notes on each Web 2.0 tool.
3. Begin presentation on each of the Web 2.0 tools using Nearpod. (I will demonstrate Nearpod
through the lesson.) When discussing each of the three tools, the SLMS will describe where the
tool can be found and the purpose of the tool.
4. The SLMS will also show teachers a sample so that teachers will understand how to use the tool.
Discuss questions and comments as they arise.
5. Upon completion of the presentation, begin an open discussion about how each of the three tools
can be used in the classroom.
6. Teachers will create a sample of the tool of their choice.

7. Teachers will participate in a poll at the end of the Nearpod lesson. I would like to use ____
in my classroom.
8. After completing the lesson, teachers will complete an online survey using Google Forms. This
will help me plan for future professional development lessons.
