Topic: Aim: To Understand The Electrical Power Conditioning Process and The Power

This document outlines a course aimed at teaching students about generalised power converters and the electrical power conditioning process in battery chargers. The learning outcomes are for students to understand the power conditioning inside battery chargers, how AC power can be produced from a battery, and the need to disconnect chargers once charging is complete. The schedule details an activity where students will be divided into groups, given cards with questions about utility and battery supplies, and a facilitator will engage the groups in a discussion about the characteristics of both types of supplies.

Topic: Generalised power converters.

Aim: To understand the electrical power conditioning process and the power
electronic switching process in a basic battery charger for electronic gadgets. It also
aims at creating awareness among students on the proper usage of battery
chargers.
Learning outcomes: On successful completion of this course, the student will be
able to
1. Describe the power conditioning process inside a battery charger.
2. Explain the process of producing an ac supply from a battery (reverse power
flow application).
3. Explain the need for switching off the charger from the utility once the
charging is done.
Schedule of activities:
Activity

Description of activity

Students will be divided in to two groups with 2-3

students in each group. To each group a card will be
given which have six questions. The questions will be
based on the amplitude, frequency and waveform of
plug based supply(utility supply) and battery supply.
After this facilitator will ask question to each group
about the characteristics of both supplies. To assist
students in this a slide will be shown to students which
indicates how the characteristics are related with size
state of motion.
