Chrome OS is an operating system designed by Google to run web and packaged applications. It is based on the Linux kernel and was initially a pure web thin client but Google began encouraging offline-capable packaged apps. In 2014, Google upgraded app standards to require offline use and added the ability for Chrome OS to run Android apps natively by late 2014. Chrome OS is built from the open source Chromium OS project but Chrome OS is the commercial version pre-installed on specific hardware from Google partners. The first Chromebooks launched in June 2011 from Samsung and Acer.

CHROME OS

Chrome OS is an operating system based on the Linux kernel and designed


by Google to work with web applications and installed applications. Initially,
Chrome OS was almost a pure web thin client operating system, with only a
handful of "native" applications, but Google gradually began encouraging
developers to create "packaged applications", some of which can work
offline. In 2014, Google upgraded its Play Store standards for packaged
apps, requiring that these applications work offline. Around the same time,
Google also announced that Chrome OS would gain the ability to run
Android apps natively, by late 2014.
Chrome OS is built upon the open source project called Chromium OS which,
unlike Chrome OS, can becompiled from the downloaded source code.
Chrome OS is the commercial version installed on specific hardware from
Google's manufacturing partners. The launch date for retail hardware
featuring Chrome OS was delayed from late 2010 to June 15, 2011, when
"Chromebooks" from Samsung, and then Acer shipped in July.

Installation procedure
Step 1 Download

We need to download both Vmware workstation and ChromeOS Vanilla


Build Version.

Step 2 Install the Vmware

Install the Vmware Workstation into your computer with basic setting.

Step 3 Edit the file

After installation , we need to add a line ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"


inside a
ChromeOS-Vanilla-4028.0.2013_04_20_1810-r706c4144-VMWare.vmx
file.

Open it with WordPad and enter the following line as shown below.

Step 4 Open the file


Open your Vmware and click on Open a Virtual Machine

And locate the file that we edit just now.


(ChromeOS-Vanilla-4028.0.2013_04_20_1810-r706c4144-VMWare.vmx)

Step 5 - Setting
Once you open the file. This window will pop out. Click on Edit virtual
machine settings.

Choose at least 1 GB of Memory for the virual machine

Choose two number of processors.

And choose the following network adapter as shown above.

Step 6 Run the OS

Click on Power on this virtual machine and find your ChromeOS-Vanilla4028.0.2013_04_20_1810-r706c4144-VMWare.vmdk file and finally the
Vmware will run your Chrome OS.

With Chrome OS , we can do some basic thing like browse the internet ,
listen to music , view image or even play games.
