Course Description:
Students will gain additional instruction and time to acquire the concepts and
skills necessary for success in Algebra 1. They will work, review, or extend
concepts and skill learned in previous grades. They will also learn new content
that prepares them fro more abstract concepts in Algebra and Geometry. Details
on their concepts are fully explained on the Virginia Department of Education

Students are required to bring the following items to class EVERYDAY:

Notebook

100 Page Composition Notebook

Students are expected to come to class everyday prepared and ready to learn with
a positive attitude. Students are required to act in a behavior conducive to
learning, according to the Richmond Public School Student code of Responsible

Policies and Procedures


Classwork: Participation in class activities and class assignments are important to
informally assess student learning and understanding. All students are expected to
participate in class. Students will receive a grade daily/weekly for work completed
in their Interactive Notebook. Participation in note-taking is a part of the class
experience. Students are expected to take notes. STUDENTS are responsible for any
work missed during the instructional hour.
Projects: Students will be given projects periodically throughout the semester.
Students will receive information on these projects as the date arises. Students will
be given ample time to complete projects including time during study hall. Students
will be graded on a rubric will detail the expectations and criteria of the
assignment.

Homework: Students will receive homework MONDAY-THURSDAY and OCCASIONAL


FRIDAY. Homework should be complete and turned in on time. Homework is usually
due the next day, unless otherwise specified by the teacher. In most cases,
homework is graded on effort and completion. If absent, the STUDENT is responsible
for collecting any missing work.
Quizzes: A quiz will be given at the conclusion of every week in preparation for the
Unit test. Students are allowed to retake quizzes as long as there is a parent
signature on the previous quiz.
Tests: A test will be given at the conclusion of every Unit. Students will have a
review in class the day before the test, which will include sample test questions.
Using notes, talking, using cell phones during a test are considered cheating and is
NOT allowed. Student will receive a 0% and can not make up the test.
NOTE: All assessments (test/quizzes) will stay inside of the classroom in the
students folder. If a student is absent, he or she is able to make up the missed quiz
or test.
LATE WORK:

Excused absence: up to 5 days after returning


Unexcused absence: one day after returning
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET ANY MISSING WORK!!!

Extra Credit Policy and Procedures:


Extra credit assignments are given periodically, and are for all students. Students
have a choice whether they would like to participate or not. Extra credit will be
offered at the teachers discretion. Students should not rely on extra credit as a
means for getting a high grade in the class.
