1st Qt: Weeks 5

Week 5:
Writing: We will focus on seed stories this week.
Zooming in to one moment, one time and one event. For
example, instead of writing about the family trip to the
water park, we will focus on the one ride we rode.
Reading: We will be working with fiction stories. We will
be looking at the illustrations and words in the text that
help us understand the setting, characters and plot of a
story.
Phonics/Spelling: This weeks focus will be on two
syllable words and segmenting those syllable parts. For
example, con-test.
Math: We will focus on problem solving strategies.
Science: We will learn about the legislative, judicial, and
executive branches of the U.S. government.

Week 6:
Writing: We will continue with our seed stories this
week. We will move onto editing and publishing our seed
stories.
Reading: We will work on identifying rhyming,
alliteration, and repetition in poems and stories and
analyzing how these elements effect our understanding.
Phonics/Spelling: This weeks spelling focus is vowels
that make the schwa sound. For example, basket the e
says the i sound which would be a schwa sound. When a
vowel is not long or short we use the schwa symbol ~.
Math: We will continue to work on problem solving and
strategies to use to solve different types of story
problems.
Science: We will start our new science unit this week on
solids and liquids!

Reminders:

August 10th: Read-A-Thon!
