Loadings For 4 Storey Building

This document calculates the loadings on beams in a multi-story building to prepare for structural analysis. It determines tributary areas, then calculates the dead and live loads from slabs, walls, ceilings and the structure's own weight. Dead loads include unit weight of concrete and dimensions of walls and slabs. Live load is 2 kPa for residential buildings. Load values are calculated for interior and exterior beams of different spans on each floor.

Calculation of Loadings (Preparation for Analysis)

Solving for Tributary areas:

Area 2 = x 3.6 x 1.8

= 3.24 m2
Area 1 = x (2+5.6) x 1.8
= 6.84 m2

Dead Load:

Due to slabs:
DLs = c x Area x ts
kN/m

; c = unit weight of concrete = 24

Area 1 for 6m span beam

DLs = 24 x 6.84 x .13
DLs = 21.341 kN

w = 21.341/6
w = 3.557 kN/m

Area 2 for 4m span beam

DLs = 24 x 3.24 x .13
DLs = 10.109 kN

w = 10.109/4
w = 2.527 kN/m

Due to walls:

Beams at 2nd floor

Wall thickness, t = .15 m

Height of upper wall = hu = 4.5 m

Height of lower wall = hl = 3.5 m

DLw = c x (hl/2 + hu/2) x t

DLw = 24 x (4.5/2 + 3.5/2) x .15
DLw = 14.4 kN/m

For beams with no lower walls

DLw = c x (hu/2) x t
DLw = 24 x (3.5/2) x .15
DLw = 6.3 kN/m

Beams at 3rd floor and 4th floor:

Height of upper wall, hu = 3.5m

Height of lower wall, hl = 3.5m

DLw = c x (hl/2 + hu/2) x t

DLw = 24 x (3.5/2 + 3.5/2) x .15
DLw = 12.6 kN/m

Beams at roof deck:

Height of upper wall, hu = 0

Height of lower wall, hl = 3.5m

DLw = c x (hl/2 + hu/2) x t

DLw = 24 x (3.5/2) x 0.15
DLw = 6.3 kN/m

Due to ceiling load:

0.2 kPa distributed on slab.

For 4m span beam, Area 2

DLc = 0.2 x 3.24
DLc = .648 kN/m

For 6m span beam, Area 1

DLc = 0.2 x 6.84
DLc = 1.368 kN/m

Due to own weight:

From Staad Analysis, total weight of beams and columns:

Actual weight of the structure =

7238.113 KN

Total Dead Load (except own weight) carried by the beams:

For 6m interior beams @ 2nd floor
Wdl = 2(3.557) + 14.4 + 2(1.368)
Wdl = 24.25 kN/m
For 6m exterior beams @ 2nd floor
Wdl = 3.557 + 14.4 + 1.368
Wdl = 19.325 kN/m
For 6m beams with no lower walls @ 2nd floor
Wdl = 3.557 + 6.3
Wdl = 9.857 kN/m
For 4m interior beams @ 2nd floor
Wdl = 2(2.527) + 14.4 + 2(.648)
Wdl = 20.75 kN/m
For 4m exterior beams @ 2nd floor
Wdl = 2.527 + 14.4 + .648
Wdl = 17.575 kN/m

For 4m exterior beams with no slabs @ 2nd floor, 3rd floor and 4th floor
Wdl = 14.4 kN/m
For 6m interior beams @ 3rd and 4th floor
Wdl = 2(3.557) + 12.6 + 2(1.368)
Wdl = 22.45 kN/m
For 6m exterior beams @ 3rd and 4th floor
Wdl = 3.557 + 12.6 + 1.368
Wdl = 17.525 kN/m
For 4m interior beams @ 3rd and 4th floor
Wdl = 2(2.527) + 12.6 +2(.648)
Wdl = 18.95 kN/m
For 4m exterior beams @ 3rd and 4th floor
Wdl = 2.527 + 12.6 + .648
Wdl = 15.772 kN/m
For 6m interior beams @ roof deck
Wdl = 2(3.557) + 6.3 + 2(1.368)
Wdl = 16.15 kN/m
For 6m exterior beams @ roof deck
Wdl = 3.557 + 6.3 + 1.368
