Cable Tray Fill Ratio Table

The document provides a cable fill ratio table for an EZ Tray cable management system. The table lists various cable tray part numbers, widths, and their corresponding maximum fill ratios in percentages. It gives an example of calculating the fill ratio for 262 cables in a 2" wide, 50mm deep cable tray, showing the total cable cross-sectional area would be 9.15 square inches or 59 square centimeters. Additional information is provided on calculating cable fill ratios by multiplying the number of cables by the square of the outside cable diameter.

This calculation is based upon the square of the outside diameter of the cable (D) multiplied by the total number of cables to be used (N) :
Area of cables = N x D
Example :
Cable outside diameter :
0.18 in.
Total number of cables needed : 100
The total cross sectional area of the cables will be calculated as 100 x 0.18 = 3.24 sqin.
This calculation method takes into account to some extent the natural cable "Swell" that is experienced when cables are placed in a tray. This
calculation assumes that the cable is a geometric square instead of a circle and yields an area approximately 28% greater than that of a
circular area calculation.
